Chugach Challenge Triathlon

What better way to celebrate the Birthday of the Chugach National Forest than with a triathlon? Compete on your own or get a team ready to paddle, bike, and run! This year's Challenge will be held on Saturday, July 29 starting at 1 pm. Don't miss this adventurous celebration of the Chugach National Forest!

 

The 2006 Challenge was a great success! Check out the results of this year's competition, and make sure to join us next year for the 100th birthday of the Chugach National Forest!

Details

 

Who: 1 to 3-person teams
When: Saturday, July 29, 2006 starting at 1 pm
Where:

Start: Summit Lake Lodge

Finish: Granite Creek Recreation Site

Course: 5K flat-water paddle, 20K on-road bike, 5K trail run

 

 

What: The triathlon course includes an approximately 5K flat water lake paddle (Summit Lake), a 20K on-road bike (road bikes recommended), and a 5K trail run. 

 

(Note: Only non-motorized boats permitted and only one competitor per boat)

 

Who: Individuals and Relay Teams Accepted (1-3 person teams)

 

When: The Chugach Challenge will be held Saturday, July 29, 2006.  The race will begin at 1p.m. come rain or come shine.  All participants must be registered by 11:30 a.m. race day.

 

Schedule ~ Saturday, July 29th, 2006
10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Race registration
12:30 p.m.   All gear must be in position
12:45 p.m.   Pre-race announcements
1:00 p.m.  Race starts at Summit Lake
1:15 p.m.  Relay runners must be in position at T2

 

Where: Our new course is located on both the Seward and Glacier Ranger Districts in the Turnagain Pass area and encompasses over 20 miles of terrain.  The race will begin at the Summit Lake Lodge (Mile Post 45.5 Seward Highway, Moose Pass) and will end at the Granite Creek recreation site on National Forest Land (MP 62 Seward Highway, Hope).

 

Fun things to expect: All participants will receive a race t-shirt designed by Kathy Sarns, snacks and beverages donated by many local Alaskan businesses, and a raffle ticket entered to win many awesome prizes from our sponsors listed below.  Top 3 individuals and relay teams will be recognized during the post-race BBQ at the Granite Creek Recreation Site. When you are recreating in the Chugach, no one loses.  So…get your teams together and come out to celebrate 99 wild years of the Chugach National Forest during “Wild Chugach Days”!
