Citizen Activist Workshop

Meet-up with Alaska Legislators

The Alaska Center for the Environment is hosting a Citizen Activist Workshop, titled Find Your Voice. The session will focus on how you can effectively communicate with elected officials and make a positive change in your community. Participants will learn how to write an effective letter to the editor, how to testify at a public hearing, how to write and call your elected officials and other skills. Breakfast is included in this free session. The workshop runs from 9am – 12:30pm, and will be held at the Alaska Center for the Environment, on the corner of 8th and G at 807 G St., Suite #100. After the training everyone is invited to carpool to the pizza-party hosted by Senator Hollis French, Representative Lindsey Holmes and Representative Mike Doogan. The get-together will be held at the Spenard Rec Center from 1-3.

Send a free Public Opinion Message (POM) to your legislator and/or a committee during the Legislative Session (January to May) by calling your local LIO. Message must be 50 words or less. LIO's also research bills and issues for you, help you work the statewide computer system and get copies of bills and background information for you.
